The results of the bypoll to 18 Assembly seats in Bihar on Thursday brought a new lease of life for the RJD-LJP, which won nine seats, while the NDA government, led by Nitish Kumar, was dealt a blow as it could win only five seats, losing seven of its sitting seats.
The bypoll — termed semi-final before the state goes to polls next year — saw the Congress, contesting alone, bag two seats. The BSP snatched the Nautan seat from the JD(U) while one seat was bagged by an Independent.
“Lalu cannot be written off,” RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav declared, taking potshots at those writing him off after his party had bagged just four of 40 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
Amidst celebrations and sweets, however, his prime target was arch rival — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. “His (Nitish Kumar) bluff has been called. People of Bihar have understood that Nitish is a dangerous man and he has teeth in his stomach,” Lalu declared, rejoicing the return of TV cameras.
